Celebrating our new Registered Landscape Architects

Five Boffa Miskell landscape architects are among those who successfully passed their New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects Tuia Pito Ora (NZILA) Registration. 

Alex Prujean joined the Queenstown office in 2022, upon completing his studies at Victoria University and gaining work experience in Wellington. He has a particular interest in urban design and environmental resilience, and is currently the Secretary of the NZILA Southern Branch and was previously a committee member for the Wellington Branch. 

Alex was mentored by Megan Harshey, who says, “The panel were appreciative of the obvious hard work and the preparation that Alex put into the registration process, his workbook and the Interview. His workbook showed a great breadth and depth of projects considering his experience of just six years in the profession, from large-scale landscape planning and contract admin to more detailed and complex projects with a finer grain of resolution. 

“Through the interview Alex demonstrated a mature perspective, and a clear and collaborative communication style, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships within diverse teams.”

Gina Langridge is based in the Christchurch office and, with over ten years practicing in New Zealand and abroad, gained NZILA registration through her experience and body of work, particularly in the design and delivery of commercial, hospitality and mixed-use projects. Her experience in hotel and resort design spans from masterplanning through to construction documentation.

Since joining Boffa Miskell in 2022 Gina has contributed significantly to projects in both Auckland and Christchurch; notably the various projects in the Sylvia Park precinct.

Izack Franklin joined Boffa Miskell in 2018 after completing his Master’s degree at Victoria University. He has been involved in a range of projects from urban infrastructure and high-rise podium design to heritage and small-scale public space projects, including Three Kings Quarry Development, and the Massey University Innovation Complex. He has a particular skillset working in the developed design, detailed design and construction stages of a project.  

Hanna O’Donoghue mentored Izack through the registration process and says, “Izack has played a pivotal role in Building Information Management (BIM) implementation. His knowledge and abilities in Revit have contributed to better design outcomes, improved efficiencies working between 2D / 3D and effective coordination with external consultants. 

“Early clash detection sessions have been key to proactively addressing construction challenges,” she continues. “Izack has been a leader in this area, providing mentoring to team members to ensure consistency in high quality outputs while nurturing skill development.”

Sofia Fourman was mentored by Pete Whiting, who says, “Sofia is a caring person, who understands the clients’ drivers and wants to see the best outcome for the site and client. Sofia has been involved in a wide range of development design work, from senior living villages, to community centres and infrastructure projects. 

“Her scope of project work has covered concept development and more recently Sofia has been involved in the delivery of landscape construction projects”

Currently based in Wellington, Sofia joined Boffa Miskell in 2017 after graduating from Unitec, and earning numerous awards during her time there. Sofia first joined the Auckland office. She is known for bringing her technical skills and passion for plants to influence a coordinated, environmentally conscious perspective to every project. Her creative and detail-orientated approach is felt on projects from early concept sketches through to reality. Some of her most recent work includes Toi Mahara, Metlifecare Gulf Rise and Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct.

Tom Steck joined the Wellington office in 2021, and has contributed to Titahi Bay Memorial Park, Silverstream Pipe Bridge and Naenae Pool and Fitness Centre. Graduating from Lincoln University in 2018, Tom’s practical experience in construction and landscape contracting has been an advantage.

“This experience provided him with skills that he has used to his advantage since joining Boffa Miskell in 2021,” says his mentor, Boyden Evans FNZILA. 

“Tom is confident when dealing with contractors and is able to negotiate with them to achieve practical outcomes without compromising design integrity,” Boyden continues. 

“Tom was fortunate to be able to include a landscape assessment that he carried out for a local stream design project. While this was his first landscape assessment, he did a first-rate job and demonstrated a clear understanding of the assessment process.”
