Technical Advisers for the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC)

Assisting NZGBC in providing technical guidance and innovation advice in relation to specific projects seeking Green Star certification.

The soon-to-be-released Green Star Buildings tool has far greater scope for considering factors such as interface with the public realm, biodiversity enhancement, Māori inclusion in design, and stormwater management than the current Green Star Design & As built tool. 

Five Boffa Miskell consultants have been appointed Technical Advisers for Green Star Buildings rating tool. They are:


The New Zealand Green Building Council promotes sustainable property development and the implementation of green building programmes, technologies, design practice and operations. They administer and develop the Green Star rating tools for use in New Zealand. 

As Technical Advisors, these Boffa Miskell consultants will assist NZGBC in providing technical guidance, and innovation advice to technical queries in relation to specific projects seeking Green Star certification.     

Ian Boothroyd has a long-standing relationship with NZ Green Building Council as an ecology adviser and Erin Diao has also been engaged as a member of the NZGBC Expert Reference Panel and Green Star Advisory Committee. 

Through her role on the Green Star Advisory Committee / Expert Reference Panel, Erin will provide specialist advice on issues relating to the Green Star Rating Tools for use in New Zealand and the development of the next generation of rating tools, as well as helping guide NZGBC in the future direction and governance of Green Star tools in New Zealand. 

Erin was a keynote speaker at the launch of the Nature category for the new framework. The Nature category addresses how Green Star aims to significantly drive uptake of biodiversity issues in the built environment, it encourages active connections between people and nature, and rewards creating biodiverse green spaces in cities.
