Achieving positive environmental outcomes for a gold mining operation
Waihi, New Zealand’s ‘Heart of Gold’, has a history of over 100 years of mining of gold and silver.
Boffa Miskell’s landscape planners were engaged to provide advice for the extension of the existing open pit mining within Martha Mine, which would increase the overall footprint of the Martha Pit by approximately 2.4 hectares.
The assessment confirmed the extended pit would continue to remain visually well-contained and largely consistent with the visual effects already occurring. Boffa Miskell presented evidence on behalf of the client and the project was granted consent in 2019.
