Revitalisation and enhancement of a popular park on Te Awa Kairangi | Hutt River.

Boffa Miskell were commissioned to propose a new master plan for Poets Park, a large public open space on 2.5 kilometres of the banks of Te Awa Kairangi | Hutt River. This is a popular recreational area, with generous open spaces, swimming holes and walking and cycle trails.

In-house UAV and mobile LiDAR scanning capability was used to inform the landscape decisions at the large scale, whilst tapping into the accurate details of the site’s unique existing features and elements.

Guided by the Te Awa Kairangi | Hutt River Environmental Strategy Action Plan, previously completed by Boffa Miskell for the entirety of the Te Awa Kairangi we prepared a concept plan, followed by construction documentation and construction observation.

The design responds to the open broad scale and naturalised setting, featuring boulders, large timbers rugged concrete blocks and extensive native plantings to enhance a range of trail experiences and reinforce way finding and vehicle control.
