2021 Indigenous Design Award

15 April 2021

William Hatton had the pleasure of presenting the Boffa Miskell-sponsored UNITEC Landscape Architecture 'Indigenous Design Award' (formerly the Māori Design Award).

The award is given to a UNITEC student who recognises and incorporates indigenous design thinking and outcomes throughout their studio works with a strong focus on Te Ao Māori. The award promotes indigenous design and representation within the field of landscape architecture, and is aimed at Māori and Pasifika students.

The 2020 recipient is Kyle MacKenzie who is of Samoan / Pākehā descent. He was recognised for producing work that embeds strong cultural design outcomes reflective of Aotearoa environments; and says his identity prompted his passion within landscape architecture. In addition to his academic studies, Kyle is currently a landscaper with his family’s business in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Representing Boffa Miskell, William Hatton was joined by Yoko Tanaka at the Award presentation. Kyle MacKenzie will be joining the Auckland design team in the coming weeks, where the team will present him with his prize and he will give a 2×2 of his work.
