Dr Ian Boothroyd named a Fellow of the EIANZ

The EIANZ Board has announced the appointment of nine new Fellows. The status of Fellow is recognition of the leading role that a member has played in the environment profession. It is a well-deserved acknowledgement of their professional standing and the commitment to ethical practice over an extended period.
Ian joined Boffa Miskell in 2014, and is well-respected for his experience in environmental management, monitoring, policy development and assessment, auditing, research and decision-making in the New Zealand environment.
Ian is co-author of several national standards for freshwater and biodiversity management and monitoring in New Zealand including a national guide to Ecological Impact Assessment. Ian has substantial experience as an expert witness and has appeared at many resource consent hearings and in the Environment Court; and is regularly called upon to provide independent expert testimony. Ian is also an accredited and experienced environmental commissioner.
In its Fellowship Citation, the EIANZ noted:
“Ian Boothroyd has been at the forefront of leadership and sustained ethical practice within the environmental sector of New Zealand, through his senior role in several organisations (including research institutes, University and consultancy), his contribution to several learned societies, including EIANZ (where he was New Zealand Chapter President from 2015-2017 and continues to serve on the Executive Committee), his role as Associate Editor of AJEM, and his influence through his ethics, advocacy and representation at all levels on behalf of the environmental profession.
He is a skilled and experienced manager of ecological impact assessments and his opinions and solution-focus are highly sought; he is also a recognised decision-maker for regulatory consent and permissions involving environmental impacts, where he has acted for several regulatory authorities in New Zealand.
In addition, Ian has been involved in the publication of several national guidelines (including the award-winning EIANZ Guideline for Ecological Impact Assessment in NZ), and has published many scientific papers and reports. Ian has taught many practitioners and continues to mentor early career starts in their chosen profession. As an environmental practitioner, who has a record sustained leadership, contribution and influence within the environmental sector, Ian is a highly deserving recipient of an EIANZ Fellowship.”
