Kaiwhakamahere | Planner
Pouwhiri Matua | Senior Principal
I have over 20 years' experience in both the public and private sectors, across a range of statutory and policy planning processes. Most recently I was the Environmental Manager within the consortium that undertook the feasibility study of a potential pumped hydro storage scheme at Lake Onslow. This role had many aspects to it, including assessing the consentability of the potential scheme; leading the consenting of a range of geotechnical investigations, and coordinating the preparation of an environmental impact statement. One of the most rewarding aspects of working on this project was the opportunity to work with a broad range of people, both within the project team, and with other stakeholders including mana whenua, Crown Research Institutes, and local government agencies.
New Zealand's conservation management is a passion of mine and I have recently enjoyed working with the Department of Conservation to lead a partial review of the Otago conservation management strategy to assess the inclusion of additional opportunities for cycling on public conservation land in Otago. This project provided me with the opportunity to develop and grow my experience working under the Conservation Act 1987.
I have also undertaken planning processes under bespoke legislative regimes including the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act and while I was the lead planner for Auckland Council for its various heritage topics in the proposed Auckland unitary plan. The Auckland unitary plan was prepared subject to a bespoke legislative process under the Local Government (Auckland Transitional Provisions) Act 2010.
