Boffa Miskell's role focused on translating complex technical information into clear, engaging visual material that supports informed community discussion. A key challenge was to communicate a direction rather than a fixed outcome, giving a sense of progressive change over time that reflected the level of uncertainty that is inherent with long timeframes and natural systems.
The team used a combination of drone footage and hand-sketching to create an impression of the likely status in 30 years' time; focusing on Council assets that are within the scope of the Adaptation Plan.
The illustrations were developed in collaboration with CCC’s marketing team to ensure consistency with the overall consultation material. Working with CCC ecologists, our landscape architects were able to understand and represent the potential ecosystems that could re-establish along the coastal edge as the salt and freshwater influence changed over time.
In addition, we helped communicate the transport resiliency strategy for Whakaraupō | Lyttleton Harbour as a whole, showing how connectivity can be provided as the low-lying roads are increasingly affected by sea-level rise.
The resulting visuals formed a key part of the consultation material, supporting meaningful engagement and enabling communities to provide well‑informed feedback on the Draft Adaptation Plan.
