Social housing redevelopment for Pukekohe

As a flagship project, great importance was placed on this project to demonstrate a robust yet flexible design which provides the residents with low maintenance outdoor spaces fit for purpose. Through applying the framework of the Te Aranga Māori Design Principles, the landscape design was enriched with identifying a community ‘heart’, promotion of healthy living through social space, opportunity to learn, exercise and play, explore opportunities to treat onsite water and increase the biodiversity of the area.

Kāinga Ora engaged Boffa Miskell to design the landscape for social housing redevelopment north of the Pukekohe town centre on the corner of Seddon Street and Victoria Street. The site contained two stand-alone single-storey homes, owned by Kāinga Ora, which will be replaced with a five-storey walk-up apartment building totalling 25 apartments of varied sizes.

The development has been marked as a flagship project, being one of the first of its nature in Pukekohe, and the first apartment building on the northern side of Pukekohe.
