The Great Harbour Way - Te Aranui o Poneke is a concept to develop and market a 67km shared pedestrian and cycle path around the shoreline of Wellington Harbour.
Preparation of a comprehensive issues and options document by a team of landscape planners, planners and mapping specialists involved consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders, including council officers, transport providers, and agencies who own and administer the study area.
The study established the vision and guidelines for the Great Harbour Way concept and drew together a wide range of existing information about shared cycleway and pedestrian projects, and information compiled by the client.
The 95-page document also included a comprehensive assessment of the statutory and environmental framework, and a detailed analysis of the proposed route and recommendations for its development. The report is a foundation document for the project and identified the next steps in terms of staging, and areas for further investigation.
