Leading the resource consent process, informing the University’s consenting strategy.

The University of Waikato proposed to establish a new, multi-purpose precinct known as The Pā, which will provide a new main entrance at the heart of the University of Waikato’s Hamilton campus.

Boffa Miskell planners led the resource consent process. This involved coordinating the necessary technical inputs from external design and engineering consultants, preparing the application and liaising with Hamilton City Council through the consent processing period.

The Pā precinct is based around the concept and form of a Wharenui (central meeting house). It is designed to accommodate a student hub, university reception, faculty offices, retail and other student services, along with a generous ātea/courtyard, central campus walkway and other landscaped areas.

Developed collaboratively with local tāngata whenua to reflect the unique character of the University and its motto of ‘Ko te tāngata,’ which means ‘For the People’, the Pā will transform the on-campus experience for students, staff, visitors and the broader community. Importantly, the Pā will strengthen the capability of the campus for the hosting of University and community events and activities, including graduations.
