As lead consultant, Boffa Miskell took responsibility for project management, high-level site analysis, option development material, coordination and facilitation of design workshops and development of a preferred masterplan.
The project initially involved a high-level analysis of the area, including identifying existing spatial planning issues and challenges. This was followed by ‘problem definition’ and ‘long list’ intervention workshops with key technical, community and business representatives, enabling the identification of a series of possible design opportunities and masterplan programme options.
These options and interventions were then tested with the key stakeholder group and a preferred masterplan option was identified through a 'short list’ workshop to achieve the project vision and investment objectives.
The community engagement process was designed to encourage input and feedback at key stages in the project’s development and to integrate both the business case and masterplanning processes. This promoted a holistic approach to problem-solving.
Drawing on local knowledge, expertise and opinions of the community and stakeholders ensured that the inputs in developing a preferred programme option were well-informed and meaningful.
The project deliverables assist in the long-term planning and design, along with establishing the framework to secure funding for the future development and infrastructure needs of the greater Punakaiki community.
