Kaihoahoa Whenua | Landscape Architect
Pouwhiri | Principal
My key focus is on landscape, natural character, and visual effects assessments. I have undertaken assessments and peer reviews for projects ranging in scale from project-based to regional and district area assessments.
I have collaborated on an assortment of project types including motorways and infrastructure (hydroelectric and solar projects), aquaculture, volcanic viewshaft assessment, industrial developments, and waterfront developments. I have also undertaken several natural character and outstanding natural feature and landscape (including seascape) assessments for district and regional councils throughout Aotearoa.
I have a track record of successfully giving expert witness evidence and advice in relation to landscape and visual matters at council hearings; drawing from my learnings acquired through the Ministry for the Environment’s accreditation course for hearing commissioners.
Prior to landscape architecture, I had a career as a registered criminologist. I am a qualified crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) practitioner and have a strong interest in this area.
I serve as a national board member for the Resource Management Law Association (RMLA) and am on the NZILA Tuia Pito Ora Accreditation Panel overseeing professional accreditation for the universities in Aotearoa.
