Kaiwhakamahere | Planner
Pouwhiri Matua | Senior Principal
I am a very experienced policy planner, having worked for several district councils preparing plan provisions and the accompanying s32 report as well as having the role of reporting officer to hearing panels. I have ably assisted many clients with preparing submissions and evidence on proposed regional plans and plan changes, particularly on freshwater.
Over my career, I have gained extensive experience in the preparation of resource consents and assessments of environmental effects. I have worked on a diverse range of projects from solar farms to a visitor centre, and quarries to poultry farms and successfully guided many clients through the statutory process.
I have a strong interest in, and knowledge of, freshwater management, rural land management and renewable energy. I was responsible for preparing several presentations on the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management (NPS-FM) and the National Environmental Standard for Freshwater (NES-F) and presenting these internally to Boffa Miskell staff as well as presenting the entire document package to LINZ. I have also prepared several applications to take freshwater and discharge nutrients to land, which have required an in-depth understanding of both the technical aspects including Overseer, and relevant policy frameworks.
I am an excellent project manager, with a proven track record in meeting and exceeding clients’ expectations, leading teams that include technical experts in the preparation of complex and challenging applications. Research is a particular skill, and I am exceptionally good at finding information. My passion for rural environments led me to conduct research on ‘driving change in New Zealand farming’, through statutory methods.
I am also a team leader in the Christchurch office assisting others with their professional development and career progression.
