I have over two decades of professional experience in assessing the effects of human activities on freshwater environments - streams, rivers, and lakes and their communities of plants, macroinvertebrates and fishes.

Working closely with clients is a priority so I can fully understand their needs and the potential effects and opportunities of their projects. I provide professional advice on how to avoid, remedy and mitigate adverse effects and achieve the best environmental outcomes.

I have undertaken ecological investigations for a wide range of projects including urban subdivisions, mining and quarrying operations, forestry, roading, hydroelectric power, pulp and paper, sewage treatment and stormwater management. This work has taken me to many parts of New Zealand including Canterbury, Wellington, Wanganui-Manawatu, Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions, as well as throughout the Auckland region.

I have investigated the ecological impacts of nutrient enrichment, contaminant discharges, sedimentation, barriers to fish passage, and stream modification including piping and realignment stream health and values. I have an interest in stream restoration and rehabilitation and have provided expert advice for stream reconstruction or “daylighting” projects.

Decision-making is assisted with scientific input that I provide. I enjoy working with project team members to find innovative and practical solutions that add value to each project. I am an experienced expert witness at resource consent, Environment Court and Board of Inquiry hearings.
